Kinds of Sentences
Declarative- I am going to the store to buy some cheese with holes in it.
Imperative- Leave your backpack here, all you need is some socks.
Interrogative- “Where are you going?”
Exclamatory- I love to eat tacos!!!!

Correcting Run on Sentences
1. Separate the sentence using periods.
2. Add a comma or a conjunction. You could use and, but, or, so, and yet.
3. Place a semicolon between the sentences.
4. Add a subordinating conjunction. These are like because, if, since, and while.

Sentence Structure
Simple- Jill went to the mall.
Compound- Jill went to the mall and bought some shoes.
Complex- When she went to the store, Jill forgot to buy eggs for her grandmother.
Compound/Complex- If Steve goes to the party, he’ll dance the night away, but he’ll have some competition.

Figurative Language
Simile- You makes me feel like a million dollar bill.
Metaphor- You running is a train hurtling past me.
Hyperbole- I am a million times smarter than Einstein.
Alliteration- Lucy loves licking lollipops lazily.
Onomatopoeia- BAM!!!
Personification- The stands were screaming,” Get these freaks off of us!”

Writing Styles
Absolute- Tires rolling, wind whipping, the car flew past my house.
Adj. Beginning- Hungry, Josh begged on his knees for some skittles.
Appositive- Steven, my arch nemesis, killed my beloved turtle, Henry.
Dash- My hat looked brand new- right out of the box new.
Adverb for Effect- “Come and get it,” Kristie yelled giddily.
Speaker Tag- “I am so upset with you right now,” Manny said while kicking the wall next me.
Vivid Verb- Stewie hurtled out of the window towards the ground.
